Clearcut
An app that reads thousands of reviews and gives you a Buy, Maybe or Skip verdict on a product in seconds, based on your preferences.
I started Clearcut because star ratings don’t answer the question that matters when you’re about to buy something: will this work for me? Nobody reads 3,000 reviews standing in a store, so Clearcut reads them and gives you the answer in seconds.
What it does
- Scan, snap, share or search: scan a barcode on the shelf, take a photo, share a link from any store app, or search by name or voice.
- One verdict: Buy, Maybe or Skip, with a one-sentence reason, the top praise and complaint themes, and how many reviews it drew on.
- Fits you, lightly: a few optional preferences per category shape the verdict.
How it’s built
A Flutter app for iPhone and Android, backed by a data pipeline that gathers listings, prices and reviews from retailers and forums, and a verdict engine that turns what reviewers say into a Buy, Maybe or Skip.
It hasn’t launched yet. Next are a trust check of the verdicts and a first field test, then beta builds on TestFlight and Google Play.
